Frank lives in Columbus , Mississippi with his wife Elaine. In 1991, Frank was working in a furniture plant and began painting as a hobby. In 1994 he began painting full-time. Frank paints everyday and says that it never feels like work. He begins a painting in what he describes as an " instinctive way' fully knowing how the picture will develop or out. He feels that they sometimes just paint selves. He works out of his studio in his home. Frank characterizes his paintings as not having a 'real hard realism". He likes to paint pictures with a dreamlike quality. Musicians, nature and sometimes even themes from myths are favored subjects. Frank- is a lover of jazz. His business card has a picture of a piano player hunkered down to his work- - playing the blues is what he is clearly doing. A very special quality of Frank's pictures is his use of color. Frank has a fantastic sense of color. Clear intense color with an incredible range from blood red, cobalt blue to lavender and lime green is used in his paintings. Even if there is a lot of stuff going on in Frank's paintings, there is balance and complementarily of forms and colors that lends a curious tranquility and unity to them. Have a look and see if you agree. Frank thinks about his art, as an art form, which is a kind of unique amongst outsider artists. He thinks about having the colors complement each other and the shapes and forms locking together. He often proceeds in stages; and begins by laying a foundation. What Frank likes about his art: He loves the bright colors and is studying to develop greater simplicity in his painting. He paints things he is interested in.
