Myrtice West's life exemplifies faith in the face of calamity.
The Alabama native married early then was diagnosed with cancer, which at time
dashed her hopes of having children. Then despite all odds (and a considerable
amount of time), she finally had a daughter.
Tragically, her daughter was murdered by an abusive husband leaving Myrtice and
her husband two children to raise. She found solace in the bible and in painting.
Recently she lost everything in a house fire. And again, it was faith that led
her on. Most of her work is religious-themed, a lot is angels that look after
her. Now in her 70's, she is an inspiration to many young folk artists and fans.
